Reflecting on the Quran’s Teachings – Learn how they apply to one’s life
Allah SWT, The Creator of our souls, knows all about it and how it will be overwhelmed in the dark because of its farness from his Creator. That’s why Allah revealed His divine last message, the Qur’an, to human beings, to follow the right path that will bring them out of their darkness into His only light. Allah SWT says,
“Alif-Lãm-Ra. ˹This is˺ a Book which We have revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ so that you may lead people out of darkness and into light, by the Will of their Lord, to the Path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy—”
Surah Ibrahim
The Qur’an is the only source that will provide you with all tranquillity and guidance you may seek to have from otherworldly sources, which calms you down for a short period, but your soul will never find its ultimate peace and comfort as it will find it with the company of the Qur’an.
Reflecting on the Quran is the reason for many significant changes. The companions of the Prophet Muhammed PBUH were considered the best of humans after the prophets because of their deep understanding and application of the Quran’s teachings.
And if we seek to change, taking them as role models, then we should follow what they strived to follow, which was the reason for their change.
This article will help you have a deeper understanding of the meaning of reflection and how it will transform your soul into the best version of it.
Understanding the Quran’s Teachings
The Qur’an has remarkable major themes upon which many essential teachings are based, such as;
1. The theme of God and His ultimate power in creating everything and His capacity to revive all his creatures on Judgment Day.
He is The Creator of everything so he is The Most Knowledgeable about what He created, He SWT,
How could He not know His Own creation? For He ˹alone˺ is the Most Subtle, All-Aware.
Al-Mulk
2. The free will of man given by Allah and His warning to us not to choose the same wrong choices of the tortured nations in the past, because Allah doesn’t want us to be in their state on Judgment Day, He wants to show mercy to us all.
Grabbing his attention that what really matters is the quality of your work not how much work you do. This is the reason for His creation of life and death. He SWT says,
“˹He is the One˺ Who created death and life in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the Almighty, All-Forgiving.”
Al-Mulk
3. The fact that the individual is part of an integrated society that each individual should collaborate with others to get the final result of flourishing all together by treating each other in the right manner that Allah stated in the Quran.
This way the perfect environment to develop will be provided for each individual in his own life and as a matter of effect, this will reflect on the progress of the entire society. Allah SWT says,
“Cooperate with one another in goodness and righteousness, and do not cooperate in sin and transgression. And be mindful of Allah. Surely Allah is severe in punishment.”
Surah Al-Ma’idah
He SWT also stated in Surah Al-‘Asr taking an oath by the passage of time that,
“Surely humanity is in ˹grave˺ loss, except those who have faith, do good, and urge each other to the truth, and urge each other to perseverance.”
Surah Al-‘Asr
Applying the Quran’s Teachings to Everyday Life
The first thing you should do to develop a Quranic mindset is to let your mind to it expose repeatedly to its teachings and give yourself the opportunity to understand and apply them in your life, believing that this is the best guide for you, and you will see it remolding your concepts and affecting the way you think.
This of course will have a great impact on your decisions and actions. Allah SWT says about the Quran,
“Surely this Quran guides to what is most upright, and gives good news to the believers—who do good—that they will have a mighty reward.”
Al-Isra
The second thing is to learn more about Allah SWT and His most beautiful name. This will reshape the way you receive His words and teachings. You will find that you cannot escape from obeying Him SWT, who created everything in this beautiful and meaningful manner, every time you contemplate His creation.
And the more you know about Him, the more you will get obsessed with Him and you will try your best to do whatever He ordered you to do knowing that He is the Ultimate Truth who had sent this message, especially for you as an act of mercy and the best way to thank Him for this marvelous gift is to make the best use of it by Living the teachings of the Quran applying it in your life just as the way that Allah wanted from you. Allah SWT says,
“We send down the Quran as a healing and mercy for the believers, but it only increases the wrongdoers in loss.”
Al-Isra
And the best person to take as a role model in applying the teachings of the Quran is the Prophet Muhammed PBUH. When A’isha, the mother of the believers, was asked about the character of the Prophet Muhammed PBUH, she said that
“his character was the Quran“

Reflection and Self-Improvement
Allah SWT says,
“Indeed, We have destined many jinn and humans for Hell. They have hearts they do not understand with, eyes they do not see with, and ears they do not hear with. They are like cattle. In fact, they are even less guided! Such ˹people˺ are ˹entirely˺ heedless.”
Surah Al-A’raf
Allah SWT had granted us the mediums which enable us to reflect on His creation, such as; seeing, hearing, and understanding. All we should do is just use them properly the same way Allah stated in the Quran.
This way every single thing around us will be a reminder of Allah. If we engage in the process of thinking using our hearts and observing the world from a Quranic point of view.
Allah SWT says,
“He certainly knows what is secret and what is even more hidden.”
Surah Taha
Allah knows everything about us. He knows even what you don’t realize about yourself, what lies deep down in your soul and subconscious.
He SWT described us, humans, in many Ayahs. For example, He says,
“humankind was created weak.”
Surah An-Nisa
Indeed, humankind was created impatient:
Al-Ma’arij
they are truly wrongful ˹to themselves˺ and ignorant ˹of the consequences˺,
Al-Ahzab
Knowing this and more about the past good and bad nations mentioned in the Quran will force you to exert more effort to get rid of the bad characteristics created in you to lessen their bad effects on you and others around you.
And that is the main purpose of our life, to be the best versions of ourselves. This is the test that if we passed in it we would achieve real success. Allah SWT says,
“Successful indeed is the one who purifies their soul,”
Ash-Shams
Conclusion
In closing, The more we learn about Allah and the Qur’an, the more we learn about ourselves and have control over ourselves due to the clarity and awareness the Qur’an provides us, and the more we know that we are lost in this chaotic world without the guidance of the Quran’s teachings. This will lead us naturally to try to apply the teachings of the Qur’an. May Allah make us from His people, the people of the Quran, and make us from those who listen to the words to pursue the best of them.
