Can Women read the Holy Quran without Hijab?
Hijab is not obligatory while reading the Quran, all you have to do is make a Wudoo and sit in a clean and quiet place so that you can concentrate on the reading. But reading Quran does not require covering the head. There are many important things to do before reading Quran like making Taharah (cleanliness) or (Wudoo’) the state of purity.
Wearing hijab is obligatory in Salah (prayer)
About Sujood Al-Tilaawah (the prostration which occurs during the ritual recitation of the Quran in Salah or outside it), it may be done in any state, even with the head uncovered because this prostration is not subject to the rulings on Salah. But Allah سبحانه وتعالى commanded the believing woman to cover her head. And to cover her head in Salah (Prayer), her Salah (Prayer) cannot be valid otherwise. A woman is required to cover all of her body during Salah apart from the face and hands.
In evidence, Allah says:
“O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.” (33:59)
Narrated `Aishah:
May Allah bestow His Mercy on the early emigrant women. When Allah revealed: “… and to draw their veils all over their Juyubihinna (i.e., their bodies, faces, necks, and bosoms) .” (V.24:31) they tore their Murat (woolen dresses or waist-binding clothes or aprons, etc.) and covered their heads and faces with those torn Maruts.
Reading Quran without Wudoo or hijab
Women can read the Quran without Wudoo or during their Menstruation if they are reading from a mobile phone or if they are reading the Quran English translation or reciting from their memory. The only state that requires (Taharah) is when they hold the Mushaf (the physical book of the Quran). Allah says:
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُطَهَّرُونَ
Surah Al-Waqi’ah: 79
“None touch it except the purified”
It is permissible as well to read Tasbeeh and Azkar without wearing Hijab. The hijab is obligatory only in Salah (prayer).
Hijab is misunderstood even by some Muslims; some people think Hijab is just a piece of cloth on the heads of women. Actually, Hijab is an entire lifestyle for the sake of Allah.
What does Hijab mean?
Hijab means in the Arabic language a “Barrier” a barrier between two things. Allah سبحانه وتعالى commanded men and women of a certain type of modesty through clothing. Covering our private parts and covering ourselves in a nice way is a gift from Allah Al-Mighty upon us. Men also have to conduct morality and fulfill a certain aspect of hijab through lower their gaze.
“Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is [fully] Aware of what they do”
Surah An-noor verse: 30
Is Hijab For Women only?
To dress in loose clothing is a part of the hijab for both men and women. A man who wears tight jeans is not fulfilling the regulations of clothing in Islam even though he claims his private parts are covered but in actual fact, he has to wear something slightly loose and not see-through or very thin. that is a part of the Hijab. so, Hijab is to dress modesty for both men and women in a way that pleases Allah سبحانه وتعالى and in a way that would not make the opposite gender uncomfortable.
“Lower your gaze” for both males and females and it is a part of the general rules of Islam religion.
Is it a part of Islam to cover your head?
There is a large number of believing women who would like to cover their faces as a part of hijab to wear a Niqab (face veil). there is a dispute amongst scholars as to whether it is compulsory or it is not compulsory for women to cover their faces. But they summed up that the hair is covered Insha’Allah, and that doesn’t allow you to wear anything after that. Covering the hair doesn’t mean wearing anything tight. however, covering the face as well is a highly recommended act of worship.
Why do women wear a Hijab?
- The word Hijab (حجاب) is mentioned in the Quran, Allah سبحانه وتعالى says: “And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision [Looking only at what is lawful and averting their eyes from what is unlawful.] and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment [Both natural beauty, such as hair or body shape, and that with which a woman beautifies herself of clothing, jewelry, etc.] and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment [i.e., beauty] except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ …” ayah: 31 of surah An-noor. This Qurani verse is one of many proofs of why Muslim women wear a Hijab.
- When Muslims obey Allah’s commands, they are rewarded and earn His eternal pleasure in Jannah. Hence, Muslim women wear the Hijab as an act of love and obedience toward their Creator سبحانه وتعالى
- It is an act of righteousness and obedience: Wearing hijab making the intention that you are following the footsteps of pious predecessors such as the wives of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم who were prescribed by Allah to cover themselves with their garments and conceal their beauty such that it would protect them from harm.
- For the reward of Jannah: In the Quran, Allah has promised the believing women paradise. Muslim Women may choose to express their faith through hijab and that is the path that they seek for Jannah. by concealing their beauty for the sake of Allah and fulfilling one of Allah’s commandments according to the Islamic faith they may get to paradise insha’Allah. Allah Says: “وَٱلَّذِينَ جَٰهَدُواْ فِينَا لَنَهۡدِيَنَّهُمۡ سُبُلَنَاۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمَعَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ ”
“And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.
